Awards and accolades

A-dec's innovative LED operatory light - which has revolutionized lighting in the dental surgery - has won a second award hot on the heels of its recent release.

The American Association of Women Dentists (AAWD), have named the A-dec LED operatory light the 2012 Best New Product for Women.

This recognition from among the dental community follows A-dec's receipt of the 2012 Silver International Design Excellence Award (IDEA) for Medical & Scientific Products. Other 2012 IDEA winners included Boeing, Audi, Microsoft and Samsung.

President of the American Association of Women Dentists, Dr Jennifer Cornell, said A-dec's LED Operatory Light would transform the treatment room and make dentists' jobs much easier.

A-dec Australia Product Manager, Leni Vilivili, said by evolving LED technology, A-dec had established a new benchmark for operatory lighting that outperformed all other industry options.

"A-dec's advanced light emitting diode (LED) technology has been optically engineered specifically for dentists and the dental operatory. The A-dec LED stands alone in the market because of how well it reduces eye-strain and provides optimal ergonomics while ensuring ample illumination, clarity and depth of field during treatment.

Mr Vilivili explained that the light's "stadium effect" mitigated shadows and maintained a uniform light pattern, similar to hospital operating theatre or stadium lighting, but with the added advantages of LED.

"A-dec's patented LED produces a natural coloured light important for evaluating teeth and gums and colour-matching veneers and composites during restorations," Mr Vilivili said.

A-dec's LED operatory light also features unparalleled positionability, fluid movement and easy-to-use controls which can be operated automatically via the A-dec delivery system, or touch-operated by hand or elbow.

"Because a dental light is so central to the treatment environment, A-dec emphasized simplicity - a light that is both sophisticated in technology, but familiar with intuitive controls. Our goal was to enhance and add assurance to everything about the treatment room experience - to help dentists and assistants focus on their work instead of the equipment," Mr Vilivili said.
