ADA and CEO Dental team-up

Australasian Dental Practice magazine is proud to announce that subscribers can now access the high quality continuing education programmes delivered over the internet by Brisbane-based CEO Dental free of charge through the www.dentalpractice.com.au website.

Subscribers can now login to the www.dentalpractice.com.au website with their normal ID and password and click on the CEO Dental option on the menu to receive unlimited access to lecture material, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The lecture programmes are presented by some of the most respected dentists in the world and can be viewed from the comfort of your own home. Plus, you can earn CE credits, where applicable, just like attending a lecture in person.

CEO Dental is the brainchild of two Brisbane prosthodontists, Drs Michael Mandikos and Tony Rotondo, who developed the format and necessary technologies to deliver CE material to dental professionals over the internet, both in Australia and internationally. The launch in May 2001 followed two years of behind the scenes work to convince some of the best lecturers in the world to back the concept. The normal fee to access the CEO Dental website, located at www.ceodental.com, is US$30 per month.

The format of CEO Dental is similar to a live lecture. You see the actual lecturer speaking to you (which assists in retentive learning, and keeps you awake - unlike printed material); you have dual slides (sometimes three) of what is being presented by the lecturer; and you have a text version of what is being said (useful for dissecting some of the foreign accents).

The library of lecture material continues to build at a rate to 4-5 lectures per month so there is always new material to look at and you can also go back to an old lecture at anytime. A lecture may not be relevant to you this month for example, but maybe you have a case in your practice next week and suddenly a lecture becomes important. Even better, unlike in a normal live conference, if you lose concentration for a second, you can fast forward, rewind, stop or start as often as you like. Even better, no more frantically taking down notes and then missing the next 5 minutes of the lecturer’s talk.

You can select the lecture you want to view by either topic (e.g. prosthodontics, endodontics, orthodontics etc), or by lecturer if there is a particular speaker you favour.

After viewing a lecture, you simply complete a test to gain your CE points. You then fax the test to the University of Buffalo who will in turn send you a certificate accredited by the Australian Dental Association and accepted in most States. It’s as simple as that. You can now earn your CE Units at 2.00am in the morning without having to leave home.

To use CEO Dental, you need to have a Pentium II or higher computer with 32Mb of RAM, Windows MediaPlayer software and an internet connection.
