The winners of the Australian Hhealth Sector Recruiting Rural and Regional Elective Bursary Competition are Ms Monica O'Malley and Ms Carolyn Dalleh of Sydney University.
Each has received a cheque for $700 to go toward their elective, together with a 12-month subscription to Australasian Dental Practice. The competition was introduced to give students an incentive to explore career options in the country without having to make a major commitment and to gain more insight into the various issues facing rural and regional practitioners. The competition is open to all final year dental the students. Eligibility is subject to the dental students arranging a placement in rural or regional Australia at least three hours from the dental hospital at which they study and providing a written submission. This year the submission addressed continuing education for dentists in rural and regional areas. All identifying features were removed from the submissions before they were judged. The submissions were judged by Dr Scott Davis, the Honorary Secretary of the North East Division of the Australian Dental Association.
