Almost a world record for Oral-B

Oral-B enlisted the support of 30,000 Australian Rules Football fans in late July to help them try and break the world record for the most people brushing their teeth in one venue. The current record is held by China at 10,240 and at the end of the day, the Oral-B attempt fell short by just 68 people.

The project was devised as part of the launch strategy for Oral-B's BrushUps and all 30,000 attendees at Melbourne's Telstra Dome for the Essendon versus Geelong game on Friday, July 29, received Oral-B BrushUps and instruction cards on entry at the turnstiles. Once seated, a countdown was guided by Geelong star, Billy Brownless, and Essendon MC, James Sherry. The BrushUp kicked off at approximately 7.15pm and the crowd brushed for 1 minute before being encouraged to sign and hand back the instruction card to event representatives.

According to Oral-B Event Organiser, Ben Caddy, "This event was important to remind us all how fun it can be to regularly brush our teeth. Most importantly, the activities were great to remind us all, especially children, that brushing our teeth can be so easy. And using innovative new products including Oral-B BrushUps makes regular cleaning fun! Oral-B BrushUps are perfect to freshen breath anywhere, anytime, and are great for a quick top up clean, even at the football! Just rip them open and brush!"

To encourage participants to hand back the signed sheets, which are necessary to ascertain whether the record was broken, Oral-B gave one in every 100 participants an Oral-B Sonic Rechargeable Toothbrush.

Unfortunately, despite public appeals in the media after the game, only 10,172 forms were returned.

Oral-B thanks everyone who participated in the attempt.
