Background screening proves a must

Australian Background and New Zealand Background have received considerable interest from the dental community following an article in the last edition.

The article detailed a survey that uncovered a rise in resume fraud. Statistics showed that 21% of applicants surveyed lied about their skills, experience and qualifications when background checked. One in 20 had a criminal conviction and of these, 21% were for theft or embezzlement. 18% revealed discrepancies in educational qualifications. "The service we provide is ideal for vetting the backgrounds of employment applicants," said joint-managing director Sally Mooney, "especially when you have made the final candidate selection." The organisation, with the applicant's consent, can check the person's identity; education; entitlement to work; employment history; employment references; criminal record; bankruptcy or individual commercial enquiry; and ASIC Disqualification. A criminal record check costs $75 or a complete dossier covering all the checks listed above costs $1100.
