Biolase Dental launched to focus on laser sales and support

The distribution of Biolase's range of dental lasers in Australia and New Zealand has been moved to Biolase Dental Pty Ltd, a new organisation set up by Dental Medical Technologies International Pty Ltd (DMTi) specifically to market, manage, service and support the flagship Waterlase MD and other Biolase products. The new venture has been established by DMTi owners David Wieland and David Goldberger to solely focus on the dental laser market.

"The establishment of Biolase Dental reflects the success of the Biolase dental lasers in the Australian and New Zealand markets and our commitment to servicing and supporting the many dentists using our products," said Barry O'Halloran, managing director of Biolase Dental Pty Ltd. "We will now also be able to work much closer with Biolase in the USA to ensure our customers are completely satisfied with their laser and also communicate to the factory their needs and desires for the future."

Mr O'Halloran said that while their name reflects the US-made lasers they sell, Biolase Dental Pty Ltd remains 100% Australian owned. The company's products include the Waterlase MD and the original Waterlase Er:Cr YSGG wavelength hard and soft tissue dental lasers, the Diolase soft tissue diode laser and the LaserSmile (formerly marketed as the Twilite) diode whitening laser.

Dental Medical Technologies International Pty Ltd is now being headed by managing director Peter Mackley, formerly the national marketing manager and will continue to distribute the Schick range of intra and extra oral radiography products, the new QuickSmile cold red LED whitening system, Eurodent dental units, SurgiTel loupes, Ultrawash handpiece washers, American Eagle hand instruments and a range of consumables.

"The Waterlase has been an incredibly successful product in Australia and it has changed the way a multitude of dentists practise and improved their quality of care. Our customers all have in common a unique commitment to their patients and the quality of dentistry they perform and as a company, we want to ensure we support them fully in that decision."

Mr O'Halloran said that the launch of the Waterlase MD at the Adelaide Dental Congress had generated renewed interest in laser dentistry and this was a partial catalyst for setting up a dedicated company to manage the brand.

"The interest in the use of lasers in dentistry worldwide is continuing to grow, particularly as dentists realise the benefits of a minimally invasive approach. Lasers are the perfect tool to minimise the destruction of healthy tooth structure and also allow dentists to easily perform a range of procedures that were previously referred out for complex surgery.

"As well as increasing our service and support infrastructure, Biolase Dental will also continue to invest in education for our users and the dental community at large and help deliver opportunities to learn from experienced users around the world."
