In the article that appeared on page 158 of the May/June 2009 edition of Australasian Dental Practice entitled "Aesthetic rehabilitation: Using provisional restorations to improve results in complex restorative cases", the etching time for e.max ceramic listed on page 168 is incorrectly stated.
If an adhesive cementation protocol is applied, e.max glass-ceramic materials are etched with the hydrofluoric acid IPS Ceramic Etching Gel for 20 seconds and subsequently silanated. It is very important not to etch Lithium disilicate for longer than 20 seconds as it can result in an over-etched retentive surface. In the case of etching e.max glass ceramic restorations, longer is not better! For more information, contact Ivoclar Vivadent.
