In the months following the Asian Tsunami disaster, organisations all over the world selflessly contributed in hundreds of ways, Dentistry played its part too, both at the frontline with victim identification as well as in the background, with many dentists personally and dental companies collectively contributing financially and in kind.
Many Australian dental companies and their principals quietly made large financial contributions and Australian dentists again stepped into the fold as they did with the Bali Bombings and on other occasions to assist on the ground.
Internationally, the Ivoclar Vivadent Group donated CHF 300,000 to the Red Cross in Liechtenstein. Heraeus, parent of Heraeus Kulzer, raised a total of 150,000 Euros from employees, companies in the group, shareholders and customers. 3Mers around the world also stepped forward with almost US$4.7 million contributed in cash and kind by employees and retirees globally, 3M international companies and the 3M Foundation. And so the list goes on.
In Adelaide, Henry Schein's Daryn Bungey championed the cause in the dental industry of radio station SAFM's drive for people to donate Shoeboxes of Love for Tsunami orphans, containing a range of healthcare, clothing and educational items, as well as toys and other recreational products.
Australasian Dental Practice congratulates everyone who has assisted so many in their time of need. It is a true celebration of the human spirit.
