DMT launches new Waterlase MD and QuickSmile

Dental Medical Technologies International (DMTi) launched two exciting new additions to its range of high tech dental equipment at the Adelaide Dental Congress.

The Waterlase MD dental laser is an evolution of the highly successful Waterlase and features a more compact design with many additional features. QuickSmile is a new patent pending whitening system that will also be marketed around the world commencing with IDS 2005 in Germany in April.

"The Waterlase MD generated tremendous interest at the show," said Peter Mackley, Marketing Director at DMTi. "As the new flagship product of the Biolase range of dental lasers, it capitalises on the success of the original model and also adds many new features. Biolase have been the leader in dental lasers for many years and part of their success is that they have listened to what clinicians have asked for and incorporated these featured into the new model."

The Waterlase MD has a selectable pulse repetition rate from 10 to 50 hz for expanded versatility across all tissue types and unique, selectable pulse modes for hard and soft tissue, with enhanced coagulation capabilities and 0.1 to 8.0 watts of power for precise, rapid tissue ablation. The unit is now controlled using the SensaTouchT Laser Control System which is Windows® CE driven and uses intelligent touch-screen navigation for complete on-the-fly control. A new HydroBeamT 360° rotatable contra angle illuminated handpiece with Comfort-JetT air/water delivery system completes the package.

Mr Mackley said that the new Waterlase MD was available for $121,000 including GST, while the original Waterlase would retail for $93,500 (inc GST). Both units use the unique ErCr:YSGG wavelength for use on hard and soft tissue applications.

"A combination of factors from a new bulk purchase agreement to a more attractive exchange rate has meant that Waterlase is more financially attractive than it has ever been," he said.

"Like the Waterlase MD, our launch of the QuickSmile product developed in the USA is the result of listening to what dentists like and dislike about chairside light-assisted whitening systems. One of the main issues is sensitivity and QuickSmile addresses this in several ways, notably by the introduction of a light source known as 'Red SuperCool LED Technology™', eliminating heat and any need for sun screens or patient protective bibs. The QuickSmileBlu™ whitening gel has been specifically designed to provide a true photochemical activation process, offering optimum results.

"We realise that this is becoming a mature market and many practitioners have whitening systems already. So the challenge for us is to educate the profession that there are significant benefits in the QuickSmile system and that not all whitening systems operate the same way. The QuickSmile system is certainly the fastest system available in the world today and only requires a total of 24 minutes light activation. People using light-assisted whitening systems know what the issues are and we believe QuickSmile makes significant progress in addressing them."

The QuickSmile system will be release for the world market in April at IDS 2005 in Germany.
