iTero digital impression taking available

Core3dcentres, a global network of laboratories using global R&D to manufacture locally, has successfully integrated the Cadent iTero digital impression system into their product offerings. iTero is currently the worlds' only commercialized standalone digital impression taking system and is utilized by more than 1,700 dentists in 12 countries. Working with their channel partners, core3dcentres will be introducing iTero to the market via a series of information evenings across Australia beginning in late August.

With 12 years in the orthodontic field and 8 years in restorative dentistry, Cadent has developed the iTero system to both increase the accuracy and ease of impression taking over conventional methods as well as act as a front-end for digital dentistry. The system is powered by proprietary imaging technology and comprises a system that is easily moved from surgery to surgery thanks to an inbuilt UPS power system.

iTero enables dentists to take a digital scan of a patient's teeth and bite, make any necessary adjustments in real-time and then transmit the file via a wireless internet connection to a core3dcentres' partner laboratory for further processing. From there, the file is transmitted to core3dcentres, a registered milling centre for Cadent iTero, where the model is milled. The accurate physical model and die are then sent to the laboratory where a precise final restoration may be fabricated.

In addition, the digital impression is sent to a core3dcentre channel partner where it can be used in computer-aided manufacturing (CAM). Using 3Shape software, dental laboratories can create custom prosthetics such as milled Zirconia or laser sintered metal copings for porcelain build up, fully contoured translucent Zirconia crowns, Lava by 3M ESPE or Zeno as well as a full range of wax and resin frameworks.

The Cadent iTero digital impression taking system:

  • Allows for the fabrication of all types of dental restorations;
  • Eliminates the need for coating teeth with powder for scanning;
  • Utilises single-use imaging shields for maximum infection control; and
  • Allows for subgingival preparation for superior outcomes.

With the ability to scan quadrants and full arches, iTero allows the clinician to easily take digital impressions of single unit cases as well as more complex restorative and cosmetic full arch treatment plans. On-screen visualisation of the scan in real-time ensures that preparations are perfectly completed and that there is adequate occlusal clearance to achieve the best cosmetic and restorative outcome. The result is a reduction in seating time and an increase in patient satisfaction.

The iTero system has recently been adopted for use as part of the curriculum at the Las Vegas Institute, a premier post-graduate dental training facility as well as the renowned Pankey Institute.
