Protec Dental Technologies, distributors of the Hoya ConBio range of hard and soft tissue dental lasers, have escorted a group of Australian dentists to Dr Hisham Abdalla's Laser Lifecare Institute, a state-of-the-art dental practice in Auckland, New Zealand for Level 1 and Level 2 laser training.
"We had a great group of attendees and they really challenged Dr Abdalla," said Tony Tomevski from Protec. "We had an orthodontist, a prosthodontist, and a dozen GPs from Australia participate. There were a number of live cases performed using lasers for both hard and soft tissue applications including prepping teeth for restorative work, cosmetic gingival contouring and scultping of a large lower frenum."
Dr Abdalla also delivered the laser accreditation course developed by Professor Laurie Walsh that must be undertaken to be able to use a dental laser clinically in Australia.
"All in all, this had to be one of the best training sessions we've had and all the attendees were high-end operators from very successful practices. This was a nononsense session where attendees could hear the theory, see lasers in action, try them first hand and have any questions answered on the spot."
Mr Tomevski said that dental lasers were continuing to grow in popularity in Australia as there was now a core group of dentists using the technology that had dispelled many common misconceptions.
"Dentists are now aware of the advantages lasers offer and are eager to learn more. As a follow-on to Auckland, we are taking five dentists to the Hoya Conbio College of Laser Dentistry in Las Vegas this week for an advanced course."
