Measuring practice performance

Throughout 2012, Centaur Software are again presenting popular and informative evening seminars with the first in the 2012 series in partnership with Australia's leading Practice Management Consultant, Dr Phillip Palmer of Prime Practice. Prime Practice run workshops for dentists and their teams teaching new systems and communication skills and techniques. These first seminars are aptly named "Improving Practice Efficiencies and Performance". These seminars are specifically targeted at those practice principals looking to improve the way they manage the key areas that can really make the difference to how the practice performs both financially and operationally.

Dr Phillip Palmer will be speaking particularly on measuring key performance areas of the practice. "There are many theories around suggesting which are the most important numbers or KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) to show how well a practice is travelling," he said. "Once these are identified and then measured, the challenge then becomes how to improve on current performance to achieve even better than industry standards. Theories are always worth understanding but how do we implement improvements in real life and in a real practice that has real staff and even more importantly, real patients."

Dr Gary Secombe will be speaking on lightening your practice's workload to achieve maximum efficiency. Dr Secombe graduated from Adelaide University in 1982 with a BDS and set up his own practice in 1986. With 25 years of general practice experience as a dentist and as the SA State Sales Manager for Centaur, he now consults with practices to help them embrace all the benefits of digital technology in both Practice Management software and digital X-ray systems.

Dr Secombe said that he sees his role with existing and prospective customers of Centaur as one of helping practices understand all the benefits of the digital revolution and how they can really improve their practice in many different areas.

"Whether practices are running on purely manual systems, using outdated computerized systems or new state-of-the-art management systems, there are areas in any practice that can be improved in terms of efficiency and workload. I also still see and speak with many practice owners still running film x-rays for various reasons. The workflow efficiencies, diagnostic improvements and also improved patient communication advantages that can be gained from moving into digital x-ray are usually quite profound and help practitioners discover this has become another passion of mine."
