New affordable digital OPG launched at FDI

Inline Systems has launched the FLEXIRAY I-Max digital panoramic x-ray at FDI Sydney 2003 which it claims is the most cost-effective on the market.

"Digital Panoramic Xray systems have always been an expensive investment for any surgery," said Inline Systems managing director, Mike Harman, "but times are changing with the introduction of the new FLEXIRAY I-Max, the latest development in Digital Panoramic Xray technology at a price you can afford!"

According to Mr Harman, the I-Max is a fully featured digital panoramic X-ray systems boasting twin drive technology and over a dozen standard programs. The I-MAX can be connected to an existing network through the USB-2 interface or used independently via the integrated Compact Flash Card.

"The I-Max lets you work face-to-face with patients using the integrated terminal," he said. "Two keys give you access to various pre-programmed standard examinations. For each of them, the trajectory and collimator drive are optimised during the exposure. The digitally controlled motors adjust to the patient's exact height."

The key to achieving good panoramic exposures lies in the correct positioning of the patient. I-Max incorporates a number of features intended to minimize the positioning error and to guarantee the best possible radiographic result.

"The frontal positioning allows you to see the patient and the console at the same time and also reduces the possibility of errors due to image reflection. The natural face-to-face position of the patient also establishes a relationship of confidence while still providing you with full operational control of the system through the easy to use terminal. Optimum positioning is verified before exposure by three laser beams displaying the Frankfurt & Mid-Sagittal planes along with Lateral plane for the correct angulation of the patient's head.

"As soon as the patient is correctly positioned, the scan is initiated using the remote control button and the image appears immediately on the screen of the host PC and therefore onto the computer network for viewing in any room. When the system is used without a host PC, the images are stored automatically on the Compact Flash Card and can be viewed and manipulated by any PC or Notebook after simply inserting the card into the supplied reader.

The FLEXIRAY I-Max also features fast and easy selection of the layer position, without taking plaster casts or using special positioning devices; advanced motor technology; power diagnostic and archiving software that can be used with intraoral X-ray sensors and cameras. "There are a dozen anatomical programs that enable the operator to produce a large range of diagnostic combinations," Mr Harman said. "The semi-panoramic option, for example, allows examinations of one side and thereby substantially reducing radiation levels. There are also Sinus, TMJ (mouth opened and closed) and Orthogonality programs giving you access to valuable morpho-physiopathological data.

Exam programs include Adult Panoramic; Child-Panoramic; Semi-Panoramic; Lateral TMJ Open/Closed Mouth; Biaxial TMJ; Back / Front TMJ; Linear tomography; Orthogonal Images of Dentition; P-A Maxillary Sinus; and, L-L Maxillary Sinus.
