Teeth can now be perfectly straight in almost half the time and half the number of orthodontist visits with SureSmile, a new computerised and robotic orthodontic system available for the first time in Australia.
Designed for kids, teens and adults who don't have the time for lengthy procedures or orthodontist visits, SureSmile delivers great results and healthier bites in at least 33% less time than conventional braces.
Available through Straightline Orthodontics, SureSmile starts with a 3D diagnostic image of the patient's mouth, displayed on a computer screen. The orthodontist then uses computer aided design (CAD) software to model a customised, precise treatment plan. Instead of a dentist then bending the archwire by hand, the SureSmile wire is custom-shaped precisely by a robot.
When the archwire is transferred to the patient's teeth by the orthodontist, over time, each tooth moves exactly to the prescribed position. It's this precise movement that ensures outstanding results in half the time.
Dr Debora Harris from Straightline Orthodontics said: "Where conventional braces can take a long time to straighten teeth, SureSmile will deliver excellent results in shorter times."
This new high tech process extends right down to the type of archwire used. SureSmile uses a "smart" shape memory alloy that permanently retains its shape once it is super-heated and bent by a Suresmile robot. As a result, the patient requires less wire changes over the course of the treatment.
