For a decade, the universal composite Tetric EvoCeram has proven its worth in clinical use. Continuous further development has yielded yet another innovation that is now being launched on the market, Tetric EvoFlow Bulk Fill.
The new flowable composite ideally complements the sculptable Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill. Tetric EvoFlow Bulk Fill is based on the same chemistry as its sculptable brother. The new flowable composite is applied as a bulk-fill base in Class I and Class II restorations. Just like Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill, it can be cured in large increments of up to 4 mm, while requiring only short light exposure times. Excellent affinity to cavity walls and self-levelling consistency are additional benefits of this volume replacement material.
Table 1. Advantages of using bulk-fill placement techniques
- Rapid, time-saving restorative technique, eliminating the need for complex layering technique resulting in increased efficiency
- Easier handling
- Fewer increments means no/fewer increment interfaces resulting in fewer problems with interface imperfections (voids, gaps) between individual composite increments22 and generally less risk of air entrapments
- No need for time-consuming shade selection procedures
- Streamlined logistics with fewer materials to store
Technology used in Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill such as the light initiator Ivocerin, the patented shrinkage stress reliever and the patented light sensitivity filter has also been incorporated in Tetric EvoFlow Bulk Fill. Due to the shrinkage stress relievers, the shrinkage stress that occurs in Tetric EvoFlow Bulk Fill is lower or comparable to that of conventional flowable composites. The same applies to volumetric shrinkage. The light sensitivity filter ensures a long working time under operatory and ambient light conditions.
Ivocerin light initiator and Aessencio technology
The decisive strength of the new flowable composite lies in the Aessencio technology, a proprietary development by Ivoclar Vivadent. In combination with the patented Ivocerin light initiator, this technology enables composite increments up to a thickness of 4 mm to be cured. At the same time, a low, dentin-like translucency can be maintained which, among other things, allows tooth discolouration to be effectively masked. The result is a particularly natural-looking, aesthetic restoration. Tetric EvoFlow Bulk Fill is thus the ideal complement to Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill, which features an enamel-like translucency. Both composites are available in the universal shades IVA, IVB and IVW. Tetric EvoFlow Bulk Fill restorations are usually covered with a layer of load-bearing composite (e.g. Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill). In the restoration of deciduous teeth, this capping layer is unnecessary.
Both products provide an ideal blend of aesthetics and efficiency. On average, dentists require 47%* less time when using the bulk-filling technique, while at the same time achieving comparable aesthetics.
10 year evolution in composites
The successful performance of the Tetric Evo line of products is generally recognized. Only recently, the company celebrated the success of these products and their continuous further development by means of a birthday campaign. A Scientific Report and a Casebook have been published which document the most successful cases.
