NSW Hygienist of the Year

The Dental Hygienists Association of Australia (NSW Branch) has voted Ms Terri Slough the 2003 NSW Dental Hygienist of the Year.

Best known for her contributions to Auxiliary and Australasian Dental Practice as a consulting editor and associate editor respectively, she has also worked tirelessly for the Association. Ms Slough's two-year term as president concluded in November 2003 at which time the membership voted to bestow on her the honour of being the inaugural Dental Hygienist of the Year. The award was sponsored by Colgate.

"I am proud and honoured to accept this award," Ms Slough said. "I have always found my work with the Association to be enjoyable and very rewarding in itself but it is of course fantastic to be recognised as having made a significant contribution to my profession. It is an achievement I will always cherish."

Ms Slough graduated from the dental hygiene degree programme from the now Minnesota State University and spent 10 years working in private practice in Minnesota.

In 1993, she travelled to Australia for a working holiday, initially practising in Wagga Wagga in country NSW before deciding to make her stay permanent. She moved to Sydney in 1994 and worked in private practice for a number of notable clinicians.

Ms Slough's association with Main Street Publishing began in 1997 as editor of the Dentevents magazine and website and since that time, her roles have been many and varied but all with a view to delivering quality information to the dental profession.

We have seen first hand the work she has done for the Dental Hygienists' Association and we congratulate her wholeheartedly on being the 2003 NSW Dental Hygienist of the Year."
