Sirona launches Galileos 3D imaging for optimum diagnostics and planning

Galileos, Sirona's next generation in x-ray imaging technology, combines three dimensional imaging capabilities with sophisticated software, giving practitioners the power of integrated diagnostics, planning and treatment from a single 3D imaging solution. The easy to use visualization software tools enable practitioners to coordinate planning with colleagues and explain treatments to patients - all with greater clarity and certainty. This results in optimal clinical efficiency.

Galileos 3D imaging with Sirona's new Cone Beam technology reaches far beyond traditional diagnostic and treatment capabilities. It does this by scanning the patient's entire oral-maxillofacial region rapidly, producing more than 200 x-ray images. The images are then combined into a large volumetric 3D image set. This 3D image set is processed and presented in Galaxis, an advanced extension of Sirona's renowned Sidexis XG imaging software. With completely integrated hardware and software, practitioners have a wide range of capabilities – from diagnosis to treatment planning to patient communications.

Worldwide, the Galileos 3D Imaging Systems has been used in over 1,500 clinical cases so far.

Galaxis 3D x-ray software displays patient anatomy in highly detailed, 1:1 images while enabling clear navigation and diagnosis in the traditional Pan, Ceph and cross-sectional (e.g. TSA) views. The patented diagnostic evaluation window gives practitioners considerable flexibility in dental diagnostics, allowing them to scroll through the patient's teeth and bone structures. All views are interactively linked so areas of interest can be found quickly and are automatically correlated in all views. Conventional radiological views in axial, coronal and sagittal planes provide an excellent overview of the complete oral-maxillofacial region and are accompanied by 3D rendering software. For orthodontic cases, a full lateral ceph can be reconstructed by software from the original scan, avoiding secondary scans and additional x-ray exposure for the patient.

The integrated implant planning capability is a user friendly, drag and drop function that allows the practitioner to select virtual implants from a large library of the major implant manufacturers. These implants are placed into a virtual plan that becomes integrated with the image file. The 3D x-ray scan of the patient anatomy can then be viewed rotationally around the implant site to assess bone structure for anatomical features or special conditions that need to be accommodated. Once the diagnosis and implant plan is complete, the image file is exported and sent to Sirona to produce surgical templates for implant placement. The templates assist the doctor with accurate placement of the implants in the patient's bone structure.
