The latest in Australian dental innovation

An enterprising group from the dental profession based in Perth hope that the latest Australian dental product development will become commonplace in surgeries across Australia and the world.

Dubbed the Servanti System, the invention is designed to replace up to six foot pedals that typically litter surgery floors with one, single, cordless model that can control up to six pieces of dental equipment.

The system will work with any product that uses a foot pedal to turn the equipment on or off. Typical products would include air abrasion, intra oral cameras, curing lights, scalers, etc.

"Like the mouse on your PC," explains Paul Taylor, one of the product's inventors, "you click the right side of the pedal to select the piece of equipment you want to operate and once selected, you click the left side of the pedal to turn it either on or off.

"With the amount of new technology being introduced these days, your surgery floor can quickly become a maze of pedals and cables. The Servanti System is a bit like going to Tandy and buying one of those super remote controls that replaces all your other remote controls.

"The Servanti System will replace up to six foot pedals and make your practice simpler, safer and more efficient in the process."

The new invention does not replace the foot pedal of the dental unit, however most other products can be wired into the Servanti System's control box, which communicates wirelessly with the cordless foot pedal. The third component of the system is a display panel that indicates which piece of equipment has been selected.

Trading as Dental Development and Research, the group has lodged patent applications for the system and have commenced limited production.
