Understanding full month rehabilitation cases

Brisbane prosthodontists Michael Mandikos and Tony Rotondo will present a two-day seminar on full mouth rehabilitations on the Gold Coast in May as the third instalment of their successful Prosthodontists Masters Series that commenced in 2005.

"There is a lot of interest in the dental community about full mouth rehabilitation cases," Dr Mandikos said. "This 2-day program is aimed at giving participants an overview of the stages involved, intricacies and some of the pitfalls.

"For dentists who are already undertaking complex cases, the program will help fill in the gaps in any areas they may be struggling with. For less experienced participants, it will set about demystifying the process including treatment planning and diagnosis and the steps involved."

Dr Mandikos said the course will follow several rehabilitation cases through from start to finish utilising both crown and bridge and composite methodologies, including clinical and laboratory aspects.

Topics to be covered include case selection; treatment planning; treatment choice including advantages and disadvantages of each; material choice; pre-procedure tissue conditioning; pre-prosthetic surgery; and preparatory endodontics, periodontics and orthodontics.

"We will look at all the aspects of managing a full mouth rehabilitation in chronological sequence over the two days. We will show how to assess patients; discuss whether other practitioners need to be involved; the stages of treatment including preps, provisionals, articulators and occlusion; lab stages; different types of impressions required; insertion; and follow-up.

"The course is applicable to practitioners at any level; if you already do complex cases, this will help you get better, otherwise it will help demystify the process and provide a pathway for additional education."

The 2-day Prosthodontists Masters Series Full Mouth Rehabilitation course will be held at the Legends Hotel on the Gold Coast, 18-19 May 2007. Cost is $965 per person.

A mini-residency on Full Mouth Rehabilitations for 12 people staged in 3 sessions of 3 days each will also be held in the second half of 2007.
