Invisalign meets CEREC: New CEREC Ortho software now available

Figure 1. Guided scanning enables the user to easily capture a full-arch scan. The software first instructs the clinician to start at the occlusal of the distal most tooth and then scan the lingual surfaces until the user reaches the midline of the arch.

Figure 2. The next step is to begin back on the distal most tooth and scan the occlusal surfaces until the user reaches the midline.

Figure 3. The final step is to begin again at the distal and now scan the buccal portion of the arch. The right side of the arch has completely been scanned.

Figure 4. The user now begins scanning on the contralateral side repeating the steps - scan the lingual, then occlusal, and finally the buccal. Once the user reaches the midline, the software “connects” the right and left side of the arches automatically. This process of guided scanning is now repeated on the upper arch form.

Figure 5. The CEREC Ortho software allows the doctors to capture a bilateral buccal bite for more accurate full-arch occlusion. After scanning both upper and lower arches, the bilateral buccal bite allows the user to accurately connect the upper and lower arches with precision.

Figure 6. The fully articulated models show the accuracy of the occlusion. Because of the bilateral buccal bite, the occlusion on the screen accurately represents what’s happening in the mouth.

Figure 9. Models can be edited and any excess tissue removed. This allows the user to virtually "trim" the digital models and a clean set of models to be sent.
